2016 Makeup Favorites

Let’s NOT discuss the fact that this is my first post in six months.  Life has been crazy (a lame excuse, but way too true) and I am just now getting myself together for the new year.

One thing I have been WAY on top of this year is my makeup game.  From lip kits to foundation to eyebrows, I have been trying so many new products, learning new techniques, and really upping my makeup game.  It is so fun to play around with new products and see what works the best.  I tried out everything from super high-end to drugstore, and I found favorites in all of the categories.  I can’t wait to try out even more stuff in the New Year!  Below are a bunch of the winners I discovered in 2016:

The Original Beauty Blender

GUYS.  If you are not using a Beauty Blender to apply foundation, you’re missing out!  It took me way too long to finally try out this product, but as soon as I did, I was converted.  Not only does it give you the most flawless finish, it also helps your makeup stay dewy and glowing all day long.  Also: OMG if you do not dampen your Beauty Blender before using it, YOU NEED TO.  It is a law, a MUST.  Never, EVER use a dry beauty blender, pleeeeeaaase.

Guerlain L’Or Pure Radiance Face Primer

Gosh, this is making me look super extra, but I am a luxury product addict, so it’s no surprise this was on my love list this year.  I was intrigued about this product ever since I saw Tati, aka GlamLifeGuru, rave about it on her YouTube channel.  I’ve been super into skincare and anti-aging lately (is it a problem that I am thinking about wrinkle prevention as an 18 year old?), so when I heard that this firms the face, I was sold.  This primer did eat up a HUGE chunk of my paycheck, but I truly do love it.  My makeup lasts so long when I use it (at least 12+ hours), and it actually does firm the face!  If you’re into luxury products as well, this is definitely a good one to try.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

The hype is REAL.  I was so excited when I finally made the jump to buy this foundation (I’m shade 4.5), and I was definitely not disappointed.  As someone with dry skin, I am always looking for a dewy foundation that can keep my skin hydrated and glowing all day long.  I will admit, the coverage on this foundation is pretty sheer (however, I tend to go easy on foundation.  1 pump is my daily go-to, but I’m sure if you used 2-3 pumps, the coverage would be much more buildable).  What I love about this foundation is that it just gives this gorgeous, natural glow all day long.  I can’t tell you how many people complimented my skin at work the first day I wore it.  Also – despite being an illuminating foundation, it lasts at least 12+ hours for me.  During the past semester, I would often work a 4:30am-10:30am shift at the coffee shop, then head to school to work on stuff until at least 3:00pm, then come home and not take my makeup off until at least 8 or 9pm, and it would still look absolutely flawless.

NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer

Could I sound like more of a broken record? I feel like everyone who does makeup raves about this concealer, and here I am to add my own glowing recommendation (btw – my shade is Custard).  This. Concealer. Is. Everything.  Super hydrating, luminous, and long-lasting.

Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk Powder Foundation

I’m going to say something that might offend a lot of makeup lovers: I HATE baking.  If you don’t know what “baking” is, it’s basically where you pack a bunch of translucent powder to set and highlight certain areas of your face.  You can probably find a much better definition out there, but basically, I don’t like it.  I’ve tried it with a few translucent powders, and the whole process just freaks. me. out.  It’s like I can feel my dry skin shriveling up and dying.  It’s so bad that I have to skip forward when people do it in beauty tutorials because it freaks me out.  Just another phobia to add to the list.  Anyway, in lieu of baking, I set my whole face with this INCREDIBLE Armani powder in shade 4.  It keeps my makeup lasting all day while also allowing my skin to glow.  I honestly don’t think I can use a different powder ever again.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit

If you’re looking for an all-around great contour kit, this is your best bet.  It’s offered in 3 different shade ranges (I’m Light-Medium), and it’s really just the perfect thing for any girl on the go.  Plus, the powders are super smooth and easy to blend.

Dior Rosy Glow Healthy Glow Awakening Blush

My friends and family can tell you that I have never been a blush girl.  In fact, my family used to joke that I looked “dead” all the time because I would literally never wear blush or lipstick.  However, this Dior blush has totally changed my makeup game.  While the bright pink color looks a little scary at first, it’s actually the most natural, flushed blush I’ve ever used.  I apply it with a light hand, and the blush is formulated to change and suit your skin tone.  It sounds a little too good to be true, but I am a living testimonial that this blush is the best.  Plus, since you only need a little bit, it lasts FOREVER.  I have had mine since July and my pan is still full.

Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops

These drops are just so cool, I had to share them.  Basically, they are liquid highlighters that come with a little dropper, and you can do anything you want with them.  If you want to add some glow to your foundation, you can add a drop or two and mix it in.  If you want to use it as a highlighter, just put a drop on the back of your hand and apply with a *damp* Beauty Blender.  I prefer these drops because they give the dewiest, prettiest highlight.  Sometimes highlighting powders can be a bit “glittery” for me, and these drops are the perfect combo of sparkly and natural.  I use the shade Moonlight on the daily, but Celestial is also fun for a super bright, metallic glow.

Nyx Micro Brow Pencil

Basically the Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Brow Wiz for a fraction of the cost.  DO IT.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

This is literally the ONLY primer that will keep my eyeshadow and liner on through a nine hour shift.  I can’t live without it – if I forget it, I will literally redo all of my eye makeup.

Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte Eyeshadow Palette

This is the perfect go-to matte eyeshadow palette for anyone’s makeup collection.  While I have used a ton of different eyeshadow palettes this year, this one stands out because I literally use it every day, no matter what eye look I’m going for.  Super pigmented while also being very blendable.

Dior Diorshow Maximizer 3D Triple Volume Plumping Lash Primer

To be honest, I always though lash primer was a little gimmicky, until I tried this one.  For some reason, it just makes mascara work SO. MUCH. BETTER.  And I swear it makes removing my mascara easier – I don’t know how, but it does.  I’ve used it with tons of different mascaras: L’Oreal, Chanel, Too Faced, Tarte, Bare Minerals… It works every time.

Kylie Cosmetics Matte Lip Kits

You had to know I wouldn’t leave this out.  Regardless of how you feel about Kylie Jenner, you have to admit the way she’s built her brand is pretty insane.  And her products are actually really, really good.  This is coming from a girl who has tried every matte formula out there: Dose of Colors, ColourPop, Kat Von D, Nyx, Jeffree Star, Anastasia Beverly Hills, etc.  For some reason, Kylie’s colors are just so on point and the formula is unbeatable.

Clearly, I’ve been loving the makeup lately.  I am so looking forward to get back to posting about my favorite things this year!  What were your beauty standouts in 2016?
